Why would someone want to become a Massage Therapist?
Why would someone want to become a Massage Therapist? I think a better question would be why wouldn’t someone want to become a Massage Therapist? Massage Therapy is a great career to get into especially if you like working with your hands, you love working with people and you want to make a difference in the world.
I’ll share my story that inspired me to become a Massage Therapist. This illustrates just how powerful it can be to make a difference in someones life being in Massage Therapy.
About 23 years ago my Father was ill in the hospital and had a very difficult time with a swelling and edema issue. He basically looked like the Michelin Man from the waist down and he was in a lot of pain. The doctors prescribed all kinds of diuretics and anti-inflammation pills and nothing was working. My brother and I took turns staying up at the hospital for about two months leading up to this change. One evening it was my turn to stay with him and his symptoms had flared up really bad and he wasn’t able to fall asleep.
I offered my Dad to massage his feet to alleviate some of the pressure of the swelling and he was open to anything at that point. I worked on his feet for about 2 hours straight and he finally fell asleep.
The next day he sprung out of bed at a hundred miles an hour to the bathroom and proceeded to let go of about 2 gallons of water weight off of his body over the course of several hours. My Dad was thrilled. He almost couldn’t believe it. We both sat down together and he asked me to go and find a professional massage therapist to come and see what someone could do that was actually trained.
Within a few days I had contacted a local school in the Tallahassee area and asked the director if he knew anyone who would travel to the hospital. He did and a gentlemen by the name of Gary Genna came up to work on my father. I watched him work on my Dad’s legs and he manually massaged the fluid out of them over the week he was there. It was a bona fide miracle.
My dad couldn’t leave the hospital to come home until they figured out a way to get the fluid off his legs and since that was taken care of they released him within a few days afterwards. My whole family was able to have their Dad come back home because of a Massage Therapist.
If you want a career that can make a difference and bring a lot of joy and fulfillment to your life, become a professional Massage Therapist. You won’t regret it!
Blessings to you all!
